Care

United Methodist Women (UMW) raise money through an annual bazaar to help support CHUM, the Damiano Center, Bethany Crisis Nursery, Life House, Salvation Army, and First Witness. UMW finances part of the parish nurse salary, gives scholarships to youth, and contributes to children's programs.

Food Sharing: Bring your Food Shelf items and place them in the shopping cart in the narthex. We are a drop-off site and regularly bring food to the Food Shelf. All items must be non-perishable (cans of soup, vegetables, boxes of cereal, muffin mixes, etc). This is an easy way to help our community members.

Lake Superior Elementary School Partnership: Lake Superior Elementary School is located in rural Superior, Wisconsin, an area without a neighborhood to build learning/mentoring partnerships. First United Methodist Church heard of the school’s needs through church members who work at the school. Now, mentors meet with students several times a month to read a book, play a game of basketball or cribbage, or talk about a favorite book or event in their lives. Book Café volunteers discuss assigned books with students as they enjoy a snack together once a month. Church members have been generous in giving school supplies and backpacks, snow pants, jackets, and mittens, and underwear, shoes, and sweaters.

Health Ministry
Supported by the parish nurse, the Health Ministry at FUMC supports the journey toward wholeness in the relationship of body, mind, and spirit. The health ministry includes blood pressure screenings on Sunday mornings, visits and communion service to the homebound, visiting the ill, and more.

Prayer Chain prays as requested for church members, their families, and others who seek God's healing and understanding love.

Care Team visits and shares the comfort of the Christian faith with those in homes, nursing centers, and hospitals through listening, talking, and praying. The Congregational Care ministry also provides meals at times of emergencies and loss.

Lay Pastors minister to members who are ill, homebound, or in need.
